Major C. J. “Jack” Matzeder USA RET died on June 19, 2015, in Poquoson, VA. Jack entered the Navy following high school graduation and served three deployments to Korea 1950 – 1953 aboard the USS Blue (DD744) USNY. Using his GI bill, he attended Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS where he met and married his wife, Donna Nunn. They graduated together in 1959 and embarked on a military career. Major Matzeder was an armor officer and served in Cavalry Units stateside and in Germany. He served two tours in Vietnam. During his career he earned numerous awards and decorations including the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal with Gold Leaf.

Major Matzeder was born in Leavenworth, KS, and is predeceased by his parents Vera M. Barnett and Clarence John Matzeder Sr. He is survived by his wife, Donna and children Mark Matzeder of Blue Springs, MO, SuzAnne Schultz (Stan), Lisa Matzeder,  Michael Matzeder(Jodi), and Matthew Matzeder (Nadja) of Poquoson, VA and Michelle Bruner (Mark) of NYC . Grandchildren: Abigail Matzeder Doane (Patrick), Christina, Joshua, Jeremy Schultz, Jennifer Matzeder, Jace, Michael, and Julianne Matzeder and Logan Bruner. Additional family Treva Nunn (mother-in-law) Riverton, KS, Jack Nunn (Susan) Bainbridge Island, WA, and Marie Allsup Farmington, N.M.

Internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family at  In lieu of flowers Major Matzeder requests donations to Downs’s syndrome charities or St. Jude’s Hospital.
