Alvro Woods Dormon, age 91,  passed on December 4, 2015 surrounded by her loved ones holding her hands. Alvro left for a gentler place. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband Leo Eugene Dormon. She was born May 18, 1924 in Shreveport, Louisiana, the daughter of John George and Alvro May Fair Woods. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by ten siblings and her grandmother, May Fair Radigan, who reared her.

Also left to cherish her memory is daughter Carroll D. Maus and her husband Jon of Round Hill, VA; granddaughter E. Heather Femia and her husband Joseph; and great grandchildren Natalie Rose, Hannah Elaine, and Joseph Leo Femia, all of Great Falls, VA.

Mrs. Dormon was a member of the Central Christian Church in Shreveport, LA. She was a true military wife entertaining at many posting. Her husband, a Navy Pilot, served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. She had many adventures to tell her friends. One was when she lived in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on the day of Fidel Castro’s successful revolution. Another was sharing a dinner conversation with former dictators Juan Peron, Fulgencio Batista, and Rafael Trugillo in the Dominican Republic.

After her husband’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling in their motor home throughout all 48 lower states and several countries. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sharing her skills with her granddaughter, Heather. She also enjoyed helping to care for over 100 rose bushes sharing them with many friends.

A graveside service and interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family by visiting
