Amy Elizabeth “Betty” Hazen,98, of Virginia Beach, passed peacefully on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Betty enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished dress maker. She was involved with gardening, Butterfly and Orchid Societies, and, her greatest joy, caring for animals, especially her rescued greyhound Ripley and multiple rescued cats. She worked in retail and management, serving as a role model to her children. She was well-loved by a large circle of friends and continued her weekly lunches out with the girls until shortly before her death. Her High School Sorority met well into their seventies. She kept fit swimming and volunteering for the Humane Society. She loved to travel and was fortunate to go to Alaska and Hawaii (her favorites), the Grand Canyon, Ireland, France and Belgium. Her trips to DisneyWorld with her grandchildren were treasured. She is survived by her children: Bonnie Bickerstaff (Roy), Wendy Biddle, Robert Hazen (Debra) and Donna Hazen Nance (George), grandchildren Megan Bickerstaff (Bill), Jenni Bickerstaff (Peter), Melinda Ilsley (Kyle), Ashley Hazen, Amy Kelsey (Konnor), Jeff Biddle, and great-grandchildren Mya, Bryce, Mason, Brayden, Landon, Berkley, Lucas and Shaye. We take comfort in knowing she led a full life and was surrounded by a lot of love. In the words of her great granddaughter Berkley “We are not done telling you all the words we want to say, we haven’t had enough time.” God Bless Great MomMom, Rest well. You are now at peace and in a better place.
