NORFOLK- Charles Walter Williams, 85, passed away on February 28, 2016. He was born in Sedalia, Missouri to the late William Demand Williams and Mary Elizabeth Williams. He is also predeceased by his first wife of 46 years, Mildred Cochran Williams and his brother, William Sherman Williams.
Mr. Williams was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Norfolk; Ocean View Masonic Lodge #335; and past member of the LDO association at Little Creek Base.
Charles started his military career as an E-1 and retired from the U.S. Navy after 25 years of service as a Lieutenant Commander; he was proud to be known as a mustang. His service to his country was very important to him; he witnessed the first H-Bomb testing by the United States and was a part of the recovery team with NASA for the first Apollo mission. After retiring from the military in Norfolk, Virginia, Charles began working as a Deputy Clerk for the Circuit Court of Norfolk for over 20 years.
Charles enjoyed collecting coins and stamps and researching his family’s genealogy. He was a very detailed and organized person when it came to everything he did, including traveling. Charles and his wife, Lucinda loved traveling; together they created many wonderful memories on the two major trips per year that they embarked on. Charles also built his own cottage for vacationing on the Chowan River in Edenton, NC.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 16 years, Lucinda Cross Williams; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Watzlavick (Charles); son, John C. Williams (Pauline); five “bonus” children, Cindy, Jo Ann, Theresa, Floyd Jr., and Henry; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and brother, John Clyde Williams.
The Williams family would like to extend their many thanks to all of the staff at Brookdale Senior Living Facility and Medi Home Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care for Charles.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 6-8PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd., Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 2 at 11AM at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk with Rev. Tony Forstall officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 5767 Sellger Drive, Norfolk, VA. 23502. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.altmeyerfh.com.

Lucinda, my prayers are with you transition into a life without Charles. I am blessed to get to know you at Brookdale and you are blessed to know that Charles is no longer suffering and with the Lord.

Sorry for the loss of your dear love one. Death is an enemy to us all but we have a wonderful hope in the near future. At Isaiah 33:24 says: And no resident will say:”I am sick.” The people dwelling in the land will be pardoned for their error.
