CHESAPEAKE –Claire Eileen Atherden, 96, died October 8, 2016. Mrs. Atherden was born in Shrewsbury, MA to the late John Gardner and Stella V. Buckley. She was a homemaker, but worked building aircraft at the Chance Vought factory during WWII. Mrs. Atherden was a Gold Star mother, having lost her son, Lester R. Atherden, III (USMC) during Vietnam. She was also predeceased by her husband, Lester R. Atherden, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Mark James Atherden, (USMC), of Mr. Dora, FL, Claire Cowan and her husband Robert of Chesapeake, David A. (USMC) and Robert Thomas Atherden of Norfolk, and Theresa Ann Hamby and her husband David of Chesapeake; a sister, Helen Giordano of NJ; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Please express your condolences to the family
