George Andrew Thompson, Jr.

George Andrew Thompson, Jr. 72, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017.

 

He was a graduate of Hampton High School and attended Old Dominion University. George served in the U.S. Army in Korea, and retired from Old Forge Sporting Clays in Providence Forge. He was a part of Virginia Beach and Ocean City, Maryland beach patrols, held a blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do and was a certified instructor, member of National Sporting Clays Association, and was past owner of SailMaster Boating Equipment, Ltd..

 

Preceded in death by his parents, George Andrew Sr.  and Mary Susan Gay Thompson, he is survived by cousins: William W. Thompson III (Sandra), Elizabeth T. Benka (Daniel), Matthew D. Benka (Amy and their son, Matthew II), William W. Thompson IV (Melanie and their son, William V), Joanna K. Tucker (Duane and their children, Kyla and Canyon), Marci T. Roberts (Wade and their children, Caitlin and Anna); and a long-standing friend, Jean M. Lankes.

 

A graveside service will be held 11 am, Monday, June 19, 2017 in Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Va.

 

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, VA 23109.

 

Altmeyer Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements
