Gerda Ingrid Meyer of Virginia Beach departed for eternal life on April 8, 2016. She was born in Trier, Germany with a zest for life that sustained each day she was with us. She will be fondly remembered for her genuine care and loving support of family and friends as well as her love of fashion.
Left to cherish her memory is the love of her life, husband of 53 years, Robert Meyer; daughters, Deanna Meyer-Pietruszka and husband Steven; and Suzette Kuhn and husband Ted. She will also be lovingly remembered forever by her grandchildren Tyler, Morgan, Clarke, Max and Troy as “Omi”.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, April 12 at 4PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd., Virginia Beach with a reception to follow.

Two years have passed and I still think about you quite often. Such a beautiful lady since the very first moment I met you always so well-kempt, your hair, make-up, and shoes. Everything about you was always one hundred percent, even your confidence. I will always cherish the stories and life adventures that you openly shared with me. There was one funny story in particular that has always stayed with me. I believe you and your Husband were in Portugal at the time and had requested a hotel receptionist for a wake up call. The following morning a call was received that it was “Fire am! Señora, it’s fire am!” Thinking that there was a fire in the hotel, you both startled out of your room down to the receptionist who then informed that it was Five am not fire am.

You will always be missed,

We are so saddened to hear of the passing of our friend, Gerda. Just cannot put into words how sad we are. We met Gerda at Aviano Air Base Italy in 1977. She was part of the European wives group, mostly Germans. Gerda & Bob were a great couple and we have many memories with Gerda at the various events, parties and places around Aviano. We continued our friendship after Gerda and Bob left Italy and then after Bob retired from the Air Force. Gerda had a quick wit and always a smile when greeting you. Even though we were on separate coasts, Gerda and Irmgard always had great conversations. We will certainly miss her and will keep our fond memories of her in our hearts.

Miss Gerda was a friendly and familiar face around the Little Creek Navy Exchange. I would encounter Gerda where I worked in the handbags department and she as a vendor in the cosmetics area. What I remember most is Miss Gerda asking for the best sales on Cashmere. I can still here her voice asking me of this. Miss Gerda was my friend. I am saddened to hear of her untimely passing however I know our lives are all in God’s hands. May she rest eternally in paradise. My condolences to the family.

Our dear friend and neighbor, we’re so deeply sad to hear the departure of your lovely, an amazing partner for life. Today she is waiting for you in a different address, to be together for eternal life. We feel cheated to know her for such a short time. She was private, and a classic fashionista that appreciated jewelry, and the beautiful things in life. Bob was, and will always be, the love of her life!!!! She always talked of her family so proudly!!!! Someday, we’ll meet again….. GONZO & NANCY
