Gertrude Gussoff Stavin

August 15, 1923 - October 5, 2016

Gertrude Gussoff Stavin passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on October 5, 2016, 3 months after her beloved husband of 73 years, Irwin. She was the daughter of David & Minnie Gussoff and was born on August 15, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY.

She is survived by her children, Dorothy (Chuck) Goldman and Richard (Dea) Stavin; grandchildren, David Goldman, Laura (Marc) Wingett, Danielle Stavin, Justin Stavin, and great grandsons, Harrison and Brendan Wingett.

Gertrude’s family was her pride and joy. She was an expert knitter who knit beautiful dresses for her daughter & sweaters for her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, played golf and enjoyed doing the Sunday NY Times Crossword puzzle with Irwin. Gertrude & Irwin loved to dance & were known as “the dancers.” Although dementia stole much of her abilities, she knew her family until the end.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers & others who provided help & support through difficult times; Ruth & Adam & their loving caregivers at Ruth’s Care, friends Sheila & Fred, Kindred Hospice’s Kathy & Diane, Sentara Rosemont Nursing Center & Hospice for their compassion & excellent care of our mother in her final days, Christina Boyd of Care Connect for her invaluable guidance & support and Rosario, who is a special friend to our family.

In lieu of flowers our family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Shiva will be Thursday night 6-8 pm, minyan at 7pm at the home of Dottie & Chuck Goldman.
