James Arnold Stidham, 79, of Newport News, passed away on, September 7, 2016.

James started off serving in the Air Force, where he then began working briefly for the Newport News Shipyard, as an underwater welder. After his brief time at the shipyard he started working for the Department of the Navy, as a welder for the Naval Weapons Station, where he eventually retired.

James’s hobbies included shallow well drilling, planting gardens, and flowers for his wife. He had a love for watching westerns and eating cornbread. James loved the simple things in life!
James is preceded in death by, his loving wife of 45 years, Carrol Stidham; brother, Lowell Stidham; and mother, Nora Stidham.

He is survived by, daughters, Lisa A. Inge and Therese C. Lovell; son-in-law, Travis L. Inge; sister, Virginia Peiris; grandchildren, Sean Stidham, Arianna Vincenzi, Jonathan Sojka, Kelsey Stidham, Brittany Gilbert, Cameron McMullen, Kirstyn Inge, Brooklyn Inge, and Steven Crosby; and great grandaughter, Kolbie Inge.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 6 PM-8 PM at Altmeyer-Riverside Chapel, 7415 River Road, Newport News, VA, 23607. A service will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 11Am at Altmeyer-Riverside with burial following at Peninsula Memorial Park.
