James M. Hoskins, 94, formerly of Buffalo Creek, WV, passed peacefully with family at his bedside on August 15, 2015 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born July 22, 1921 in Kettle Island, KY to the late Millard & Virgie (Asher) Hoskins. Jim was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Jane (Brock) Hoskins; siblings, Rachel Evans, Abbie Bullins, Willie Hoskins, & Henry Hoskins; and grandson, Buddy McReynolds.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Barbara (Randy) Barnes, Margaret McReynolds, Jewell Wood, & James (Bertha) Hoskins; brother, Arthur (Freda) Hoskins; grandchildren, Chris Phillips, Rupie Phillips, Michelle (Mark) Napier, Tamie (Scott) Glasgo, & Alex Hoskins; and great grandchildren, Taylor Counts & Sophia Lauryn Phillips.
Jim proudly served in the US Army during WWII and was a member of Masonic Lodge, Sandy Hook 576. He worked as a coal miner in Kentucky & West Virginia for over 40 years. Upon retirement, Jim was a vegetable farmer in Grayson, KY & later in Bumpass, VA. He was a member of Bear Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church in Catlettsburg, KY. Jim was an avid fisherman who at the age of 85, caught a VA State Citation Large Mouth Bass.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 11 am in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, 16155 Midland Trail West, Crawley, WV 24931, with Brother Mike Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Bear Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church, 18730 Bear Creek Rd, Catlettsburg, KY, 41129.
