Jesse,99, left his home on earth for a perfect home with his Lord and Savior on July 6, 2016. He was born In Beaufort County, NC, to William and Lucy Waters on January 2, 1917. Jesse married Iola Smith in 1942 and moved to South Norfolk after World War II, where they raised their two daughters. He was a member of South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church. Jesse was devoted to his family and his Lord. His last few years were difficult as his health declined, but his mind remained sharp to the end. Everyone who knew Jesse & Iola loved them. Jesse was preceded in death by his wife Iola; his daughter, Deloris Ann Small; eight brothers and five sisters. He was the last of fourteen children. He is survived by his daughter Sandra (Richard) Starrette; son-in-law, Jack Small, Sr.; five grandchildren Jack(Jane) Small, Tracy (Alan) Spradling , Brett (Heather) Starrette, Christian Small, Nicole (Joe) Cowand; ten great-grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; sister in law Jennie Waters, two special nieces, Betty Lou Peele and Jeanean Mizell; many nieces and nephews and extended family and his wonderful Church Family. A visitation will be held 4-6pm Sunday July, 10 2016, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 929 South Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake, VA. A service will be held 10am Monday July 11, 2016, with the burial to follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery Suffolk, VA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church, 1030 Jackson Ave Chesapeake , VA 23324. Condolences can be made at www.altmeyerafh.com
