Jessie Alfred Crisp

April 15, 1928 - March 14, 2018

Jessie Alfred Crisp, 89 of Moyock, NC, passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2018. He was born in Bryson City, NC on April 15, 1928.

Jessie served Our Country in the U.S. Navy following World War II, attaining the Victory Medal for his service. He worked at both Drexel and Broyhill Furniture, where his interest in woodworking began. Moving his family to Hampton Roads VA, he entered the cabinet business, working at Shenk Kitchens on the Peninsula and later starting his own business, Prestige Kitchens of VA, in VA Beach. He is renowned as one of the best designers and builders of custom kitchens in the region.

Jessie retired from Prestige Kitchens in 1984. Not being able to rest, he started Bentwood Kitchens in Moyock, NC building kitchens in a barn. This business morphed to Bentwood Labradors out of his love for dogs.

Over the years, he had numerous hobbies and interests, such as becoming an Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in VA Beach, and an accomplished bowler at Princess Anne Lanes. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed goose hunting in Maryland, both catch and release at Oregon Inlet or just fishing for fun with his buddies at the Campground in Williamsburg. His passion for raising and training dogs inspired him to breed the best labradors on the East Coast. As with most of his endeavors, he excelled and Bentwood Labradors is no exception.
Jessie was predeceased by his wife of nearly 67 years, Helen George Crisp, and son, Robert Crisp of Petersburg, VA. He is survived by daughter, Carolyn O’Hara (Kevin); granddaughter, Jessica O’Hara Bacon (Jonathan) of Charleston, SC; and niece, Barbara Crisp Moore of Bracy, VA.

Jessie would have been 90 in April. His family would like to thank all the friends he has made along the way that made his life so full and would like them to know that he left peacefully and on his own terms.

What our families say...

In my opinion, there is no better facility in Virginia than Altmeyer Funeral Homes. Not only was Chris Sisler there to hold my hand every step of the way, his family members were holding the door on the day of the funeral to help and encourage me. I will never forget their grace. He led me and my family through the process as a personal friend and neighbor, and as the ultimate professional.
