Loyce Joe Martin, 89, died on Sunday, June 28, 2015. He was born in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Walker George Martin, Sr. and Nallie Martin. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Korea, Viet Nam and retired after 20 years of service. He also worked for the civil service and retired after 20 years. Mr. Martin owned and operated his own HVAC company. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Norfolk and the Willis V. Fentress Masonic Lodge #296, As well as a member of the Merchant Marines (Armed Guards).
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, George Walker Martin, Jr., Cecil Martin and LeLand Martin. He is survived by his wife, Joyce C. Martin; son, Jimmy Lewis “Chip” Martin; two daughters, Pamela Baughman and husband Loren, and Brenda Bigelow; four sisters, Jeannette Donaldson, Doris McKinney and husband Bill, Juanita Godkey and husband Pete, and Betty Puttman and husband Boyce; seven grandchildren, Skyler Watkins, Chelsea Watkins, Matthew Baughman, Katherine Warren and husband Jonathan, and Rachel, Ashley and Katrina Bigelow; great-grandson, Lukas Martin Bigelow; great-granddaughter Clair Joyce Warren; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Martin and Julia Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 150 Kempsville Road, Norfolk. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Rev. Mark J. Bender officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic Honors and Navy Honors. Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Va. Beach is in charge of the arrangements.

Dear Mrs. Martin, Brenda and family, I was so sadden to hear about the loss of Mr. Martin. I will always remember the joy and laughter we shared together. Mr. Martin was such a character and full of so many great memories which he enjoyed sharing with all. I loved all the stories he told and how he was family first, patient and kind and how he loved Hardees! I knew I could always find him there! I will never forget him.
