Marjorie H. "Frances" Powell

August 15, 1930 - April 9, 2018

Marjorie H. Powell “Frances”, 87, went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2018. Marjorie was born in Franklyn, Virginia to the late Cecil and Marjorie Old on August 15, 1930.

 

Marjorie graduated Portlock High School and took a job at C & P Telephone Company shortly after. Over the years and with a lot of hard work and dedication, she obtained the job title of business office supervisor. Frances as she was known to many of her friends, stayed very active in her work community and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. In 1972 she married the love of her love George Alvar Powell and then retired from C & P in 1985. After retirement Frances volunteered at Sentara Leigh Hospital. When her beloved fell ill, she then volunteered with the Heart Association.  George and Marjorie were married for 36 years before his passing in 2008.

 

Other than her parents, Marjorie is preceded in death by her loving husband George Alvar Powell; brothers, Cecil R. Old, Jr. and Leon R. Old.

 

Left to cherish her memory our her children; Morris A. Hill and Melani Loney and husband Michael E. Lyle; grandchild, Zachary Mark Loney; sister, Sherry Boyd and many other family and friends.

 

A graveside service officiated by Rev. Dick Baker will be held on Friday, April 13 @ 10 AM at Albert G Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery (5310 Milners Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434). Online condolences may be left for the family at www.altmeyerfh.com
