November 23, 1927 - March 19, 2017

Richard Wayne Francis, 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 19, 2017. Richard was born in Moline, IL to the late Clarence Ellsworth Francis and Juanita Cook, the oldest of eight children. Richard enlisted in the US Army and faithfully served for 20 years, retiring as a SFC and after serving another 20 years in Civil Service, retiring as Sergeant Major. During his time in the military, Richard met and married the love of his life, Bernice.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Richard was also predeceased by two sisters, Norlene and Sheila, two brothers, Rodney and Eugene and daughter, Janet.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving children Linda M. Carman (Mike), Dorothy M. Berryman (Sean), Richard L. Francis (Linda) and John E. Francis (Twila); ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Carol) and Dwight (Connie); one sister, Barbara and his dear companion Anne Stultz.
A celebration of life will be held for Richard on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road in Virginia Beach. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 22nd from 6pm-8pm at the funeral home. Please CLICK HERE to make contributions to the Disabled American Veterans in Richard’s honor.
