Udine Elizabeth Philbert, 85, of Newport News VA, went home to her father 1 April, 2018. She was born in San Fernando, Trinidad, on 4 December 1932. She is survived by her beloved son Mortimer Philbert Sr.; grandchildren Mortimer Philbert Jr., Michael Philbert, Johnathan Philbert, Trevor Philbert, Micholas Cox, Marchilene Harlee, Maurisha Vuncannon, Mersha Philbert; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Udine was a home economics and etiquette teacher in Trinidad. As a single mother she migrated to the U.S. in 1970 to provide a better life for her children in Brooklyn, New York. She loved the Lord and spent most of her days in church or buried in the scriptures. Her passion was cooking gourmet dishes and catering to crowds.
She was a very wise and intellectual woman and was the backbone of her family. She had a great sense of humor and would often claim that Barrack Obama and Steve Harvey were her “boyfriends.” She used the culmination of her life experiences to be a teacher, mentor, and leader to anyone she encountered. She would always say that “you can gain intellect from a book, but wisdom comes with time.”
We are grateful for the her life and love. God makes no mistakes, she had a purpose and her impact will be eternal.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, 6 April, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Altmeyer Riverside Chapel. Friends and family may make a memorial donation in lieu of flowers.
