Wayne Leroy “Pops” Emminizer, 80, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017. He was born in North Carolina to the late James Worley Emminizer and Rene Caulder. Wayne graduated from John A. Holmes High School in Edenton, NC. It was here that he developed his innate athletic talents as a baseball pitcher, and made a friendship with Jim Hunter Catfish, who would later go on to play for the New York Yankees.
Wayne served in the Army Reserves for two years. He later worked for Helen Curtis for 25 years as a sales manager and was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church in Va. Beach and a member of the Norfolk Moose Lodge #39. He was a long-time resident of the Kempsville area for over 44 years. Wayne was always an avid sports fan, golfer, and a “people person.” His legacy will be most cherished by those he cared about as “an encourager,” and he will be dearly missed.
Wayne is survived by two sons, Gregory James Emminizer and Jason Wayne Emminizer and his wife Mary Luton Emminizer; grandson Hunter J. Emminizer; and a sister Kay Galloway.
The visitation will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, VA. Beach on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
