Major (retired) Willard Granger, (95) of San Antonio Texas, has joined his wife of 60 years, Barbara. Left to mourn his passing are his daughters and their husbands Karen Finnegan (Terence) and Rebecca Warren (Harold); grandchildren Ike, Heather, Shae, Liam; and six great grandchildren.
Will was most proud of his many years of service to his country, first in the Army during WWII followed by a long career as an Air Force pilot, flying a wide variety of aircraft. Will flew medical evacuation in the Korean War and talked often of piloting the KB-50 refueling tanker.
After retiring from the USAF and completing his Electrical Engineering degree from ODU, Will embarked on a new civilian aircraft career at the Naval Air Depot in Norfolk.
Will had many interests and hobbies including photography, building computers, playing music and tinkering in his shop. He was an active Ham radio operator since 1955 (K4EGW).
He loved to spend time daily at Tommy’s Restaurant engaging in conversations and enjoying the people he met there.
Arrangements are by Altmeyer Funeral Home, www.altmeyerfh.com. Private interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
One of the nicest men I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
Blue skies ahead. No more water landings, tax shelters, puzzles to solve. Happy flying Will. We’ll see you in the great beyond.
Blue sky’s ahead. Many days of happy flying. No more water landings, tax shelters, or delivering papers at the Alamo.
Sending my deepest condolences to friends and family at this time.
Sorry For Your Loss!
