Ada "Lucille" Purefoy

February 20, 1928 - August 21, 2020
Ada “Lucille” Purefoy went to her Heavenly home on August 21st, 2020. She was a very young 92 year old. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Hardy Willis Purefoy.  Lucille was born and raised in Reelsboro, NC, but was able to  travel extensively with Hardy during his long career in the Navy. They finally settled in Virginia Beach in 1963 where they made many lifelong friends.
Lucille will be missed more than we can begin to say, by her children; Marcia Maschue, Diane Gorney and husband Tom, Michael Purefoy and wife Bonnie; in addition to her seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, who she cherished dearly; and Holly, her much loved furry companion. She is also survived by her beloved sister Carol Paul and husband Bill of Florence, SC, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She and Hardy were active members of St. John’s Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, where she will be remembered especially for her beautiful table settings at the Mother’s Day Tea Parties and her exceptional fancy hats!
Special thanks to her grandson Jay Williams and wife Jeri Jo who lived with and cared for her the past several years when she was unable to drive, taking her to doctors appointments, picking up medication, grocery shopping and many other things she was unable to do on her own.  Also, thanks to Lori Camden for her dear friendship and support and for always making sure Lucy’s  hair was done!
There will never be another Lucy!
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 26 at 11:00 AM at Colonial Grove Memorial Park on Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach.  A celebration of life gathering will follow at 1932 Red Barn Drive, Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society or St. John’s Baptist Church, Virginia Beach.
