Alene Lankford, 97 of Chesapeake (South Norfolk) left this life on August 4, 2021.  She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Ernest M. Lankford, Sr. She is survived by her daughter Judy Krol (Dick), of Norfolk VA, grandson, Richard Krol of Greensboro, NC, son, Ernest M. Lankford, Jr. (Marsha), granddaughters Jamie Wallace (James), Emily Cooper (Jay), and great grandson Brendan Wallace, all of Northwest Alabama, nephews Dean Cunningham (Betsy) of Salisbury NC and Joel Cunningham (Carmel) of St. Augustine FL and several great nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Lankford was active at Southside Baptist for more than 60 years.  She was known for her pound cakes, broccoli casseroles, and their walker bag ministry.

Special thanks go to her great nephew, Doug Davis (Judy) who through the years has always been there when needed, whether it was yard work, enabling her to get to her doctors’ appointments, and who faithfully visited weekly to just spend some time with her.  An everlasting thank you to Chantay Rivers of CR Compassionate Care Medical Services, her staff and Marion Sandholff who gave exemplary care, comfort and extended her life.  Thanks also go to Westminster Canterbury at Home Hospice care.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, Aug. 10 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Dr. Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Donations in memory of Alene Lankford may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at or call 888-557-7177.  Flowers may be sent to the funeral home.
