Allan White Brock, Sr.

December 22, 1930 - April 20, 2021

Allan Brock Sr. died peacefully at his home in Virginia Beach, VA on Tuesday April 20th. Allan was the son of John and Daught Brock and born and raised in the southern part of Virginia Beach known as Pungo. Allan Sr. is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Allan Brock Jr. and Laura Elizabeth Brock, his grandsons Wyatt and Davis Brock, and his niece Audrey Galloway.

Allan Sr. and his wife Jenell were both pillars of the Pungo community. They owned and operated Brock’s Grocery Store, working seven days a week residing above the store until 1980. Allan Sr. and his brother, Nelson, built and operated the Pungo Square Shopping Center in 1976 and it is still thriving today. Allan Sr. was a jack-of-all-trades. He worked tirelessly building homes, working in his shop, selling real estate, making mailboxes for Taylor Do It Center, delivering newspapers and volunteering in the community.

As a founding member of The Pungo Strawberry Festival, Allan Sr. held the position of Vice President of the Strawberry Festival Board of Directors. The Festival has given back over 1 million dollars to local charities since its inception. Allan Sr. could often be found riding his golf cart up and down the streets of Pungo during the Festival, or around the shopping center, most days of the week. Allan Sr. was a hard-working man with the utmost integrity. He often helped people behind the scenes if they were in need and never asked for anything in return. He was always humble, never wanting to be recognized for his kind gestures. “Poppy” enjoyed his grandsons immensely by teaching them to drive a tractor and a golf cart and showing them how to fix things in his shop and how to cut the grass. He leaves a great legacy behind carrying on his traditions.

So, in your khakis and button-down shirt, with a belt that matches your shoes, of course, rest easy with your beloved Jenell.
