Angelita Tapang José, 71, of Chesapeake, passed away in her home on December 19, 2019.
She was born in Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines, the eldest of five children, to the late Manuel Ramos Tapang and Bernarda Tapang. After graduating college in the Philippines, Angelita moved to Los Angeles, California to work as a medtech, where she met her future husband Rogelio D. José, a sailor in the U.S. Navy. Angelita and Rogelio raised their four children in Virginia Beach, where she also worked as a graphic designer for the Virginian–Pilot newspaper. She was an active member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach; the Legion of Mary; and the Lord of Pardon Prayer Group.
In addition to her parents, Angelita was predeceased by her husband, Rogelio and her brother Ignacio Tapang; and is survived by a her brothers Manuel Tapang and Lazaro Tapang and sister Violetta Tapang; her son, Michael José; three daughters, Mary Anne Veal and husband, Nolan Veal, Jr., Mary Lourdes Andrus and husband, Timothy, and Christie Garcia and husband, Albert; five grandchildren, Dylan José, Marie-Bernadette Andrus, Celeste-Anne Andrus, Liliana Garcia, and Annalia Garcia; and loving family in the Philippines.
Angelita is remembered for her independent spirit, keen sense of humor, bright smile, and total trust in the mercy of God, which she practiced in her self-sacrificing concern for others. Even as her health weakened, Angelita continued to visit and care for her ill friends and assist her family members. She will be greatly missed.
The visitation will be Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach. The Mass will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 10:00am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA., with Fr. Cristiano Brito, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk.
