Wesley Ann Bernard, 75, passed away Sunday, 09/17/2017 in Virginia Beach. Ann was born 11/13/1941 in Norfolk, VA to George and Mattie Cutler. Ann attended Maury High School and moved on to become a bus driver for Virginia Beach City Public Schools where she served faithfully for 49 years.
Ann met and married Sherwood F. Bernard Sr. Their union brought forth four wonderful children. Ann loved her family and truly enjoyed crafting, estate sales, and most of all, anything Christmas. She could be best described as a feisty lady who told it like it was.
Sadly, Ann was predeceased by her husband Sherwood, known as “Bear” as well her son, Bernie and her parents. Left to cherish her memory are three children; Debbie McReynolds and husband Robert, Cheryl Ruffin and husband Gene, and Sherwood Bernard Jr. “Buddy Jr.”; her sisters, Jean Creef and husband Avery, Ellen Thomason and her husband Ira; grandchildren Nickie & Tori Ruffin, Sherwood Bernard III and wife Katelyn; and a host of additional family, friends and co-workers.
A memorial service celebrating Ann’s life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Altmeyer Funeral Home at 2 PM, 5792 Greenwich Road in Virginia Beach.

Memorial Service
Ellen, we are so sorry to hear about your sister passing. You and your entire family are in our prayers. Hugs to you all.
I remember my first couple of years driving school bus in the bayside area. I was so happy to be able to talk to Ann because she told me exactly what was needed to be able to drive school bus and how to deal with some of the drivers. She was spot on about everything. I really appreciated her blunt but truthful way of speaking. She will be missed by so many.
I am so sorry for the entire family’s loss, including her busdriving family. I will miss her wonderful sense of humor and her spunkiness. The commitment to everything she did will always shine.
Debbie,Cheryl and Buddy Jr; I am so sorry to hear about mom. Ann was a very special lady and very good friend to my mom. You all will be in my prayers.
