Anthony (Tony) J. Goffigan, 68, of Virginia Beach, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 18th at 8:15am. He was born on April 7, 1949, in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of John and Antoinette Goffigan and youngest of two older brothers, Robert and Dennis.
Tony enjoyed an Italian upbringing in Cranston with his family. After he graduated from Cranston High School West, he attended Rhode Island Community College. He withdrew to enlist in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam, continuing his family’s tradition of military service during times of war, taking his place in an unbroken line of patriots that dates back to the founding of our nation.
Following his military service, he attended Northrop Inst. of Tech. After graduation he married Helene Myers of Pottstown, PA. With her support, Tony continued his education, graduating from San Jose State with a degree in Accounting.  He worked in both the government and civilian sectors. His favorite professional endeavor was in Corning, NY, retiring as the Director of Internal Audit and Federal Compliance.
Tony retired with his family in San Diego, and recently moved with them to Virginia Beach. He is remembered as the family historian, loving husband, father of two sons, Michael and Daniel, father-in-law to Kelly, and the MOST legendary “Papa” to Jacob, James, and Amelia. Tony lived with the motto “What happens at your grandparent’s house, stays at your grandparent’s house.”
Tony is survived by his mother, brothers, wife of 45 years, sons, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

Funeral Mass- St. Gregory the Great’s Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd, VB, 23462, Tuesday, July 25th, at 10:00a.m., followed by a procession to the Veteran Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
