Audrey Lorraine Lewis

July 15, 1939 - July 23, 2017

Audrey Lorraine Lewis entered this world July 15, 1939 and passed peacefully on July 23, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to many.  She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Earle of nearly 60 years;  daughters, Donna Fuhrmann (Ron); Diane Pease (Jimmie); Delores Gehr (Rick); Darlene Howard (Stewart); Debbie Jones (Gary); 12 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren and sister Marguerite Colglazier.   She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond H. Simmons (1940) and Cecelia I. Ritchie and her step-father Grover C. Ritchie.

Audrey was born in Washington, DC and a resident of Maryland for many years, eventually moving to the Tidewater area in 1986.  She loved to fellowship with the members of Free Will Baptist Church and Tidewater Church of the Nazarene, where her gift of hospitality flourished.  The gift of her loyalty is reflected through the many friendships she maintained from high school, her previous residences and her current neighbors and church families.  She especially loved her Red Hat Society friends where she served as “Queen Mother.”  Her wit and fun sense of humor were often enjoyed by her Red Hat sisters and her many, many friends.

Besides the love of the Lord, her ultimate joy was her family.  She met Earle when she was 14 and would have celebrated in October her 60th Anniversary with the love of her life.  Her love for her daughters was deep, and the love she had for her grandchildren; Craig, Celia, Claire, Lori, Curtis, Ryan, Robert, Brad, Cecelia, Matt, Kevin, Connor and her great grandchildren;  Isaiah, Ryan, Ethan, Eli and Owen was more than each of them will know.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, July 25th from 6-9 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia.  A celebration of her life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 26th at Virginia Beach Free Will Baptist Church, 210 S. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA.  Her final resting place will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, VA, where interment will be at 1 pm.

What our families say...

In my opinion, there is no better facility in Virginia than Altmeyer Funeral Homes. Not only was Chris Sisler there to hold my hand every step of the way, his family members were holding the door on the day of the funeral to help and encourage me. I will never forget their grace. He led me and my family through the process as a personal friend and neighbor, and as the ultimate professional.
