Avery Jenkins, born to Alton and Girlie Jenkins on August 14, 1964, fell asleep in death on March 28, 2021. Avery was preceded in death by his father.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Emerald; daughter, Brionna (Justin) Little, son, Derick Lassiter; his mother, Girlie P. Jenkins; 4 sisters, Pamela Vaughn, Sharon Baker, Bernadette Jenkins, Amanda Carmichael; 6 brothers, Gerl Jenkins, Dennis (Anita “Jewel”) Jenkins, Joe Jenkins, Gregory (Rondalyn) Jenkins, Alton Jerome Jenkins, and Porter (Ester) Jenkins, a nephew Dana R. Jenkins, who was raised with him like a sibling, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and spiritual brothers and sisters.
He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on December 29, 1984, and remained faithful until his death. Avery enjoyed family vacations and gatherings, also spending time with friends in various congregations. We will miss his contagious smile.
A public viewing will be held Friday, April 2, 2021 from 4:00-5:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 12893 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News. Memorial services will be held online via Zoom on Sunday, April 4, 2021 At 5:00 pm.

I want to send my love and condolences to Brionna, and the rest of the Jenkins family. Avery will be missed. One thing that i will always remember about Avery was his corny jokes! lol Now you know his jokes were corny when he would be the only one laughing at them. Gone to soon, but we shall see you again. Sleep in peace my brother.

I wanna say how much my uncle Avery means to me. I will always remember the Crabber games and the cookouts we spent together. You were like a big brother to me, ALWAYS there when someone needs it. I am blessed to call you family. I love you Avery and I know God is truly honored to have you as a part of His flock. Rest in Paradise UNC!!!!!

I first met Pam and Dennis when I was in the Newport News congregation. Little did I know that their mom, brothers, and sisters were in Hampton who also became my family. All of them are dear to me. Avery and Jerome helped me with my ministry when I first started to pioneer. Love u all much.
