Barbara Anne Rossi

June 29, 1933 - May 5, 2021

Barbara Anne Rossi, age 87, went to be with our Lord on May 5, 2021, surrounded by her loving children. She was a loyal wife and a dedicated mother to her five beloved children.

Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Anthony Francis Rossi; their oldest daughter Loretta Rossi Wack; sister Clareen Casey; and brothers Robert Lee Winfield, Sr. and Earl Winfield.

Barbara was born in New York in 1933 but relocated to Virginia at a very young age.  She attended and graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk. She and her sister had their own radio show back in the ‘40s.  Barbara’s talent and beauty led her to win Miss Norfolk and was later the first runner up for Miss Virginia in 1952.  She always had Broadway aspirations. In her early adulthood, she journeyed to New York to make her long held dreams a reality.  While renting a room at a convent, she landed her first role in the original Broadway touring cast of South Pacific, where she met her future husband, Anthony.  They went on to perform together in the original Broadway touring cast of Kismet, and it was truly “kismet” that they wed during that run.

Together they raised their children in both New York and Virginia. She was an incredible cook for her family and showed them what it truly meant to be devoted to the church.

Barbara and her husband would sing locally at The Venice Italian Restaurant in Norfolk. Her beautiful voice was a part of the St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church choir during a high mass for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican under the direction of her husband, Anthony. She was a part of the choir at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church for over 30 years with her husband as the choir director. Barbara was also the founder of the Hampton Roads Chapter of The Legion of Mary.

She is survived by her children Daniel Rossi, Michael (Kristen) Rossi, Richard R. Rossi, Regina (Robert) Valentine; six grandchildren Nicole, Joseph, Anthony, Michaela, Kristina and Christopher; and siblings Faye Edwards, Brenda Page, MaryLou Epstein, Linda Matthews and one brother, Brian Winfield.
