Barnabas William Baker 100, former Mayor to the City of Portsmouth passed away on September 25, 2020. Barnabas William Baker, born on July 1, 1920, was an accomplished individual who was a World War II veteran, he was a historian and served as Mayor for the City of Portsmouth. He was also the founder/owner of the Portsmouth Ambulance Service Inc. and the Portsmouth Cab Co. He was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret Inez Baker.  Altmeyer Funeral Home- Southside Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements, at this time per the former Mayor’s request Mr. Baker will be laid to rest beside his loving wife at Cedar Grove Cemetery (Fort Ln. Portsmouth, Virginia 23704) with military honors, on Friday, October 30, 2020, at 11:00 AM.
