Dr. Bruce Hood Brunson
NORFOLK- Dr. Bruce Hood Brunson, died on July 3, 2021, two days after celebrating his 71 st birthday.

Bruce was born in Virginia to the late Aubie Wilson Brunson, Capt. USMC (ret), and Pauline Grace Brunson. He retired as a Commander after 22 years of service in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator. Following his retirement from the military, Dr.Brunson worked to help active-duty military, veterans, and their family members achieve economic security while working with the Department of Defense, Florida Community College at Jacksonville, and as a college administrator at Tidewater Community College. He also taught graduate and undergraduates personal finance courses at Virginia Tech, and Texas Tech University. He was a member of the American Legion, Canadian Legion, and VFW.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother Gladys Brunson, and a son, Matthew Brunson. Dr. Brunson is survived by his wife Barbara Jean Brunson; daughter Jenn Brunson; and a sister, Alvina Pitches (Michael); and Barbara’s daughters, Kristin Colonna (Kristen Jagger) and Lauren Wrenn (Elliott).

A memorial service will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive VA Beach on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
