BUFORD M. “BEN” OWENS

CHESAPEAKE- Buford M. “Ben” Owens, 92, went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2018.

He was born in Buchanan Co., VA. to the late Irra Jack and Mary Marie Owens. Ben served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired after 20 years and then worked for Norshipco as a safety inspector before retiring.

In addition to his parents, Ben was predeceased by son, Ricky Owens; brothers, Emerson, Ashby and Benny Owens; sister, Laska Fuller; and a grandson, Kevin Welch.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Frances E. Owens; daughter, Gina Hudson and husband Jim; granddaughter Nicole Sanford and husband Justin; great-granddaughter Evelyn Ward; grandson Joshua Hudson; daughter, Glynis A. Dorton; son, William Larry Dorton; daughters, Sharlyln McGuire and husband Bobby and Marsha Jimenez and husband Pedro; sons, Gary Owens and wife Judy and Randy Owens and wife Georgia; two siblings, Jack Owens and Evelyn Musick; and nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Azalea Garden Church of God, 1541 Centerville Turnpike, VA. Beach with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 11:30am with Rev. Dr. Rodney S. Vickers and Pastor Aubrey D. Maye officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery, Suffolk.
