C. Wynne Oz

November 8, 1933 - March 28, 2021

Wynne Oz passed away on March 28, 2021. She is survived by her loving children, Maura Nankervis and Kent Oz; 3 grandchildren, JT, Mark & Josi; son in-law, John; and daughter in-law, Lisa, whom she fully embraced and made part of her family.

Wynne was born in Brooklyn, NY, attended the University of Alabama and graduated from the University of Mexico in Mexico City. Her love of travel led her to become a flight attendant for Pan America Airlines. During one of her trips flights to Rio de Janeiro, a passenger kept asking her for “just one date”. The “just one date” turned into a long-term relationship and eventually a loving marriage that lasted 34 years until her husband’s passing in 2004. During their 34 years of marriage, Wynne and Sermi lived in: Paris, France, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and NYC before settling in Virginia Beach in 1995.

Wynne was a vivacious and strong-minded woman – well ahead of her times. She started and operated a successful whole sales travel business (World of Oz) – specializing in luxury tours to exotic locations. Wynne taught us that the only criteria to evaluate a person is their actions. She had strong political views but would advocate her views politely and with respect – never resorting to ad hominem attacks. She will be sorely missed.

Family will be having a private memorial and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts in-lieu of flowers can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation (alzheimersresearchfoundation.com).

What our families say...

My family and I are grateful to Angie and the entire Altmeyer team for providing a thoughtful viewing and funeral service for my Auntie. They were kind and respectful through the entire process, listening attentively and carrying out our requests with compassion. Thank you for your help, but most importantly, thank you for your sincerity!
