Carlton Ray Croft, 85, of Virginia Beach, passed away on  December 10, 2017. He was born to Mary and Leslie Wyatt Croft in Norfolk and spent his formative years in the Panama Canal Zone. He returned to the U.S. mainland as a young man and raised his family in Chesapeake before retiring to Virginia Beach. Carlton served 8 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve and later retired from work as a manager in the automotive dealership business. More recently he retired as Vice Flotilla Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary at Little Creek, Fifth Southern Region, Division 5, Flotilla 07. His devotion to family and senses of humor, morality, and charitable responsibility will be greatly missed by all who love him.

Carlton was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond Croft. He is survived by Shirley Swimme Croft, his loving wife of 56 years; daughter, Kendall Meddows and her husband Michael; son, Carlton “Ray” Croft, Jr.; six grandchildren, Jackson, Sullivan and Bennett Meddows; and Ashley, Erin and Wyatt Croft; four great-grandchildren and brother, Leslie Croft, Jr.

His service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 2 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1801 Baltic Avenue, Virginia Beach, with a burial in Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 North Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach to follow. The family invites loved ones to celebrate Carlton’s life back at Altmeyer Funeral Home following the burial.
