Cassandra Eileen May

December 17, 1979 - March 1, 2021

Courtney May announced the death of her big sister on social media last week. Cassandra endured a lot of tragedy in her life, and sometimes the darkness overcame her. Gratefully, she was seeking the light for the last three years, and though she was sick for these last couple months with fever and respiratory illness, the medical examiner listed her cause of death as hypertension and hypothyroidism. She knew she was really sick, but because her family is primarily in Georgia, none of them knew how sick she really was. They are all in shock and devastated by her loss.

Survivors include her younger sister Courtney, who now lives in Augusta, GA; her nephew Ashton Bailey (Virginia Beach); her godmother and aunt Patricia “Pippi” Coogan (Youngstown, Ohio); her Aunt and Uncle Kathleen and Gary Lisko (Augusta, GA); cousins including Jennifer Andrews (Ethan, Wright, Julia and Eli) and Sean Coogan (daughter Kaitlyn Kelsey); and her Aunt Marilyn May and Regina May Tilou and their families.

Cassandra’s and her mother Eileen’s Memorial Service will be held next Saturday, March 20, at 2 PM, at 3 on the Hill, the band-oriented, casual worship service at Trinity on the Hill UMC in Augusta, Georgia. Cassandra attended and served at this church when she lived with her cousin Jenny and her family in late 2017. She traveled to Georgia to spend time with her mother Eileen Coogan May before her death from Frontotemporal Dementia in October, 2018. Eileen, Cassandra and Courtney joined the church in 2018 during the time the girls took turns being their mother’s caretaker so they could enjoy time with Eileen before her sharp decline. Despite the sadness of Eileen’s decline, Cassandra enjoyed being near family and participating in family routines, including church on Sunday mornings. Many people from 3 on the Hill including the worship, tech and hospitality teams, will be serving the family on Saturday, March 20, as they memorialize BOTH Cassandra and Eileen. They never had a funeral for Eileen as they hoped because they were waiting for Cassandra to be able to return to Georgia, and Courtney realized the day Cassandra died, “Well, we always felt the Lord said ‘Wait for Cassandra”, and now we know why. We can bury Mom and Cassandra together.” The family invites you to help them remember Cassandra and Eileen Coogan May by attending the memorial virtually on the 3 on the Hill YouTube page; then the family will privately spread their ashes where Joe’s (Cassandra’s father’s) ashes were spread when she was a child.

Please be present for the service, virtually or in person. It will be live streamed on the 3 on the Hill page on YouTube and by posting below, your words of remembrance can be included in the service. Please state in the comments how you knew Cassandra, and share any special memory or words of comfort you feel led to share with our family as we grieve. For those of you who were not in contact with Cassandra for a while, she began a relationship with Jesus and experienced the power of the Holy Spirit in her life. We have the blessed assurance that she has an eternity with Jesus and reunited with her parents in heaven. To view the service please click below
