Catherine Elsie Gunter, 86, passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2021. Catherine was born to the late William and Hedwig Bey in New York.

Catherine served her country proudly for 3 years during the Korean War in the Navy. She was the secretary for St. Timothy Lutheran Church for 39 years before retiring. She ran St. Timothy’s food bank for 10 years.

Other than her parents, Catherine is preceded in death by her sisters Alice Ferra and Anne Raucci.
Left to cherish her loving memory is her husband of 66 years Wayne Gunter; daughters Christine Moore and her husband John, Nancy Gunter; son Keith Gunter & wife Laurel; brothers William Bey, Eric Bey, Richard Bey; sister Elena Bey ;grandchildren, Edward Gunter and wife Melissa, Virginia Gunter and husband Christian Jemmison, Sheela Lewis and husband Nick, Holly Daugherty and husband Joe, and Joseph Kowalchick. She has one great granddaughter and 5 great grandsons.

Besides her biological children she was a Mom to many and a loving, supportive friend and confidant to many more.

Catherine’s visitation will take place on Monday, March 8 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel (5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462). Services will follow on Tuesday, March 9 at 10:00 AM at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church (1051 Kempsville Rd, Norfolk, VA 23502) with burial and military honors immediately following at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that a donation be made to St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church Foodbank.
