Charles “Chuck” A. Bland, 80, was called home peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2020 in Norfolk, Virginia. Charles was born October 28, 1939 to Charlie and Tessa in Woodbury, Georgia. Chuck immediately enlisted after high school and served in the Navy. He retired as a Navy Chief Navigator with 23 years of service and retired Civil Service GS12 with 15 years of service. He enjoyed flying planes, playing golf and gardening. Chuck was a jack of all trades and was always on the go. He was known as a real friend and a generous, loving and funny person with a big heart.
Chuck met his soulmate Merle and they began their short but sweet 4 year life together. They used to live in Newport News but decided to move back in Norfolk to be closer to family.
His loving memory will forever be cherished by his wife Merle; sister Jane and brother-in-law Byron; children, Christopher, Colin and Janice; stepchildren, Mark and his wife Mildred, Jeremy Ann and her husband Lester; step grandchildren, Andrea, Miguel, Joaquin and Gabrielle. He will also be remembered by his closest friends, Stan, Carla, Kevin & CeCe, Grace and several other family friends. He will also be missed by Caregivers, Nurse Aides, and Social Workers who helped take care of him in the last year while he was in home hospice.
