Cheryl “Cherie” Lea Ritter Luton, 62, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 in Richmond, Virginia surrounded by her loving family. Cherie was born September 25, 1958 to Morris and Christine in Nuremberg, Germany. She was a 1976 graduate of Laural High School in Maryland.
Cherie’s pride and joy were her three daughters and their children, Jennifer (Tyler), Jessica (Jordan, Rylea, Ella, Izzy), and Amanda (Jake, Owen). Cherie was a 1980 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach, Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She pursued further education to become a Special Education teacher and attended Old Dominion University for a Special Education Certification in 2008. Cherie will be best remembered for her passion to change the lives of all the children she taught. In her spare time, Cherie loved spending time with her family, reading, and relaxing at the beach. Cherie’s faith grounded her throughout her life, especially in her final moments.
Those left to cherish Cherie’s memory are her parents, Morris and Christine; three daughters; sons-in-law, Brian, Bret, Jonathan; grandchildren and great grandchild; brother, Mark (Sue); nephews, Aaron and Christian; and a host of loving and supportive non-immediate family and friends.
A service to celebrate Cherie’s life will be held from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1801 Baltic Avenue, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451. Cherie was an uplifting person. She was kind to everyone she met. She was an amazing mother and teacher. The world could use more people like her. Prayers for her and her family.
