Christian Joel Dempsey

Christian Joel Dempsey, age 65, passed away this week unexpectedly.

He was born in Chatellerault, France. Parents are Thomas R and Ginette H Dempsey. After graduating Denbigh High School in 1971, Chris began attending classes at Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) in Graphics Arts and later in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC). From an early age, he found passion for creating art; as a designer, as an illustrator, and especially as an oil painter.

A part of his early childhood was spent in Catholic Sunday school at Fort Eustis Chapel. He loved swimming, modeling building, vintage performance cars and later developing a passion for motorcycle becoming a long-term member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Chris’ passion extended beyond to any rider of any make and model to anyone who loved riding.

While pursuing his passion as an artist and his love for motorcycles, Chris worked well into his retirement working for K-Mart for 23 years.

Chris was preceded in death by his brother Alain M, and survived by brothers James A, and Timothy E Dempsey; his niece and nephew Bridgette and Michael Dempsey

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Joan of Arc Chapel, located in Yorktown. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Cemetery following Mass.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Altmeyer Funeral Home in Denbigh Chapel.
