Clara Kidd McKenney
Clara Mae “Jo” Kidd McKenney, 95, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2021 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Clara was born at home in Fluvanna County, Virginia to the late Clarence W. and Mary I. (nee Marshall) Kidd on August 30, 1925.
Clara spent her childhood and teen years as a happy “country girl” in Fluvanna where she graduated from Fluvanna County High School. After working as a school secretary at the high school for a few years, she moved to Richmond, Virginia where she met her husband, Jerome Andrew “Jerry” McKenney. They were married on September 6, 1952 in Richmond. After purchasing their first home in Chesterfield County, just outside Richmond city, the first of three daughters was born and Clara happily changed her occupation to Mother and Homemaker. Clara was a loving and caring mother and took care of her daughter with special needs up until she was 89 years old. In 2014, health issues forced her to leave her beloved home in Chesterfield and move to Virginia Beach, close to her oldest daughter.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband Jerry McKenney; her parents; her brother, Thurston Kidd and his wife Shirley; her sisters, Bernice Kidd Brown and her husband Jimmy, Vera Kidd DeYoung Wall and her husbands, and Jane Kidd Duncan and her husband Bay; and a niece and a nephew.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, JoAnn McKenney Seifert and her husband Rob, Mary Jane McKenney and Cathy McKenney and her husband John Kenny; grandchildren, Karen Seifert, Mike Seifert, Katie Seifert and Win Kenny; many nieces and nephews; and special friend and neighbor in Richmond, Kathy Tolton.
A private service is planned for Clara. She will be laid to rest, next to her husband, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Richmond, Virginia.
Clara’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Princess Anne Health & Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care and kindness that they gave to Clara in her last years. Clara was blessed to have Margie, Robin, Tanika, Shavon, Felicia, Dorothy, Samantha and so many other caring people become a special part of her life.
