Longtime Virginia Beach resident, David Ray Wilson, died April 22, 2021, after a prolonged illness.
David was born December 15, 1951, in Wilmington, North Carolina, of the late Robert Raymond Wilson and Betty Allender Wilson. As a young boy, he heard the alluring call of the sea and spent his happiest days on deck in the Chesapeake Bay. While still in high school, he fished and ran crab pots at every opportunity and, after serving in the U.S. Air Force, returned to his first love and eventually captained his own boat for many years as a commercial fisherman. He was also an avid hunter.
He is preceded in death by his brother Danny Wilson and sister Susan Edwards.
David is survived by son Michael (Christie) of St. John, US Virgin Islands; son Barry of Spring, Texas; grandchildren Iden, Lily, Jade, Nathan, Lyon and Lyla; brother Patrick of Virginia Beach; and brother-in-law Robert (Nancy) Edwards of Anchorage, Alaska.
The family would like to thank the staff of Accordius Health at Bay Pointe for their compassionate care of David during the last year of his life.
A private celebration of life will be held in St. John, US Virgin Islands, at a future date.
Arrangements under the direction of the Altmeyer Funeral Home-Southside Chapel, Virginia Beach.
