Deborah Ann Davis

March 24, 1950 - September 7, 2018

Deborah Ann Davis, 68, has gone to see her Heavenly Father. On the evening of September 7, 2018, Deborah died from a cancer that had spread throughout her body. She fought this battle hard for over two years without complaint and served as a Godly example of one serving and battling with grace.

Deborah was born on March 24, 1950, in Dublin, North Carolina. She graduated Hampton High School in 1969 and, after returning home when her father passed away, attended Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, TN, where she graduated in in 1981 with a Medical Assistant Degree. Throughout her life, Deborah lived in Dublin, NC; Chicago, IL; Hampton, VA; Nashville, Hermitage, and Franklin, TN; all before coming back to Hampton, VA, to care for her mama. She worked for the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center and was a member of the Hampton Church of the Nazarene, a member of the Donelson Church of the Nazarene, and attended the Bibleway Fellowship in York County.

Deborah loved to read, work with children, work in the church as a teacher and children’s quiz director, serve as an Assistant Caravan Director, and teach Vacation Bible School. She served faithfully in Children’s ministry and other areas from her teen years until her cancer prevented her from going to church. She loved people and was loved by people. She was a wonderful sister, friend, Christian, and all around great person. She loved God, her family, friends, and her church. Her sister rejoices that she is in pain no longer and that she is with the Lord and with family and friends.

Deborah is preceded in death by her parents, Challie S. Davis, Jr. and Mary “Ruth” Davis, as well as an infant sister. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Cathy R. Davis of Franklin, TN, along with her relatives from Mama’s daughters of the heart, Laura K. Gootee and Deborah S. Gootee, both of Franklin, TN.

Additional survivors include cousins Joe Davis (Janice) of Bladenboro, NC; Charles Davis (Laura) of Dublin, NC; Jane Davis Brooks (Charlie), Judy Davis, both of Smithfield, VA; Jackie Davis Wilgus of Gloucester, VA; Lanelle Johnson, Mike Johnson, Lawrence Johnson (Joanne), all of Carrollton, VA; Terry Miller Baxter (Mark), of Hendersonville, TN; Karen Miller Wilkerson (Paul) of Bowling Green, KY; Chuck Miller, Jr. (Maria), of Westmoreland, TN; and Kelly Miller Guy (David) of Hendersonville, TN. She also has extended family throughout the United States. She was blessed by the love of so many family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a donation of a Gideon Bible in the name of Deborah Davis.
