Dee Jean Gerhardt, 69, passed away with her husband at her side holding her hand. She was born in New York to the late Lester Klein and Edith Worrell Klein.

Dee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a great friend to many. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 43 years, Roger Gerhardt; son, Ray Gerhardt (Jacqueline); daughter, Nikcole Sales (Nelson); grandchildren, Jazmin Caldwell, Taylor Gerhardt, Kyleah Caldwell, Griffin Gerhardt, Trenton Sales and Nelson Sales; sister, Patricia Piori; niece, Jeanna Vizzard; and many other family members and friends.

Dee was a proud volunteer at the United States Navy for 9 years as an ombudsman. In her free time, she was an avid bingo player and enjoyed bowling. Dee also enjoyed taking cruises with her family and friends. She was resilient and caring even throughout her own health battles. She always managed to put others before herself without complaint. Dee was loved by all that knew her and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 10AM to 11AM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 5792 Greenwich Rd., Virginia Beach. The funeral service will follow immediately at 11AM. A private burial will take place at Colonial Grove Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Dee’s favorite charities: Cozies 4 Chemo at cozies4chemo.org or to Jewish Family Service/Helping Hearts. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.altmeyerfh.com.
