Delma Lee Robertson Kolekofski, 86, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed on Sunday, April 3, 2016 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Delma was born on October 1, 1929 in Wightman, Virginia to Willie Royal and Minnie Bell Robertson, and was a long-time resident of Newport News. She was an avid reader and gardener, and loved family history.
She was educated in Mecklenburg County, graduating from Buckhorn High School in 1948; she also attended Smithdeal-Massey Business College in Richmond, Virginia. Delma worked for the telephone company in Emporia, Virginia prior to enlisting in the Women’s Army Corps in 1950. She served for three years, attaining the rank of corporal.
Delma is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Keith E. Kolekofski, and her brother James F. Robertson.
She is survived by her children: Donna L. Kolekofski, Dale K. Davis and her husband Thomas H. Davis, Jr., and Keith E. Kolekofski, Jr. and his wife Terri V. Kolekofski; her grandchildren: Steven L. Jenkins, Keith E. Kolekofski III, and Kelly L. Kolekofski; and her many siblings: E. Royal Robertson, Shirley R. Carter, Wilda R. Stabler, Thomas G. Robertson and his wife Linda, and Nell R. Rutledge; and sister-in-law Mattie R. Robertson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Delma was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Chase City, Virginia and Stevens Memorial Baptist Church in Newport News.
Her family extends a special thanks to the Churchland House memory care program in Portsmouth and Heartland Hospice of Virginia Beach who cared for Delma during the waning days of her wonderful life.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel, followed by burial with full military honors in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
