Donald Philip "Don" Erickson

June 8, 1947 - February 24, 2021

Donald (Don) Philip Erickson, 73, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on February 24, 2021. He left this world blanketed by the love of his family at the home they built together in 1980.
Don was born in Crookston, MN, on June 8, 1947, to Norman B Erickson Sr and Gladys E Erickson. The youngest of 5, Don grew up with a passion for family, sports, and building all manner of things. His talents for building started with a 17-ft inboard/outboard boat in his High School Industrial Arts class. A few years later he met the love of his life, Lois Elaine Sevald. They married and began their life’s journey together in service to our country. Don fulfilled a life-long dream when he got his wings of gold as a Naval Aviator, allowing him to see the world and have many fascinating experiences. He dedicated 25 years of Naval service, retiring as a Commander. Following his military retirement, Don began his second career as a consultant at the Joint Warfighting Center.
Don always placed looking out for people first – including his family, his friends and neighbors, and fellow members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church – valuing hard work and service to others. His happy place included time in the garage refurbishing old radios and building bookshelves, or a competitive game of Whist with his wife, children, and granddaughter.
Don is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lois, his three children, Dan (Nicole), Jeffrey, and Jennifer, his granddaughter Reinee, his brother Jim, brother Jerry, sister Jennifer, cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he adored without end. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his brother Norman Jr. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. If you would like to honor Don’s memory, please help the next person in need.
