Dr. Cheng Yang Lin passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Cheng was born to Lin Jin Sen and Lin Lu Yang in Taipei, Taiwan.
Cheng met his wife and love of his life, Shui Lin, while attending college. He obtained his PhD in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M. Cheng moved to the United States from Taiwan with his wife and two children, Steven and Jean. He earned a license in professional engineering from both Taiwan and the United States. For over three decades, he worked at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA and held positions as program director and professor of engineering technology. He was a deacon, elder, ODU Chinese student bible study fellowship leader, choir member and occasional speaker at churches who loved serving the LORD. In his spare time, he could be found pursing his passions for table tennis, fishing, and gardening. He also adored his grandchildren, Bryce and Jasper.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Shui, two children, Steven and Jean, two grandchildren, Bryce and Jasper, as well as a host of cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Dr., Virginia Beach. A virtual memorial service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 10:30AM at First Chinese Baptist Church, 228 Pritchard Rd, Virginia Beach, VA. So sorry for the passing of Cheng. We grieve for his family and it is a devastating loss for all of us in his table tennis community.
