Eli Burr left us suddenly on Sunday May 16, 2021 in Virginia Beach. Eli was born on September 12, 1991 to Dennis and Sarah Sole in Midlothian, Virginia. She was a master’s graduate from Longwood University and had been teaching in the Chesapeake Public school system for the last 6 years at Sparrow Road Intermediate and B.M. Williams primary.
Eli met the love of her life, Shawn Burr while attending Longwood University. After graduation, Eli and Shawn relocated to Virginia Beach. They were married on December 10, 2016. Their union brought forth two children, Leila Rose and Maddox Ryan. Eli’s family was everything to her, nothing was more important. In her spare time, Eli loved to go to the park with her family, suntanning at the beach or pool, watching tv or movies, SHOPPING, or spending time with her friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents Sarah and Dennis Sole, her husband Shawn Burr, two children Leila and Maddox Burr, as well as a huge extended family and hundreds of friends.
A visitation will be held from 3-7 PM on Friday, May 28th at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Dr., Virginia Beach, VA. Everyone who loved Eli is welcome. A service will be held on Saturday, May 29th at 2 PM, at Liberty Live Church, 1801 Sara Drive, Chesapeake VA, 23320. In lieu of flowers, please contact  Kasey Brooks (757) 235-1239 or Chris Brooks (757)646-3918 to see what the family needs.

In my granddaughters time of need Mrs. Burr gave her great confidence. Mrs. Burr was a wonderful teacher. She was sweet, caring and very patient with her students. My granddaughter was a current student and her class misses her very much. The teaching community has lost an extremely good teacher. I’m truly sorry for the loss. God bless her family maybe he’ll with God’s blessing.

Eli, today I attended your beautiful memorial service. What a lovely, lovely service it was. You were there amongst the many you love and who love you. Your Shawn shared so many sweet memories of you, and he always said, “Ours was a true love story.” How sweet! You left too soon, and if there is a plan in that, it is a hard one to except. I didn’t know you well, but now I feel I know so much about you. And when I pass by your classroom like I do so many times, I will remember the sweet girl with the beautiful smile. Rest in peace sweet girl. You will be missed forever.

I taught with Eli at BM Williams primary for the last two years. Her classroom was directly across from mine and we would talk in the morning as the kids entered the classroom. Eli was one of those people who was clearly doing the job she was meant to do. She was a gifted teacher and I never heard her say an unkind word to the children or any of her colleagues. She had an infectious laugh and she was a pleasure to work with. We miss her every day at BM Williams. I feel lucky to have known her.

I had the pleasure of being Eli’s Principal for the past two years. The moment I met her I knew she was going to be a positive influence to our school. She exceeded my expectations in every way. Eli was born to be a teacher, especially a reading teacher. She always had a kind, positive word for her students, parents, and colleagues. It was a pleasure to work with Eli. Her B.M. Williams Primary Family misses her so much. We will love you forever, Eli.

Eli was always so sweet during my time living with her in Poplar Forest. I’m so lucky to have gotten to know her in that time. I am a fairly reserved person and Eli was always down to sit in the doorway to have a chat with me. I never felt alone while she was around. Words escape me as I cannot fathom why she would have to leave this world. Thinking of you and your family and all those late night chats I was lucky enough to be a part of. Much love and good vibes to you and your family.

Eli was a BRIGHT LIGHT, and her smile could certainly fill a room. We were heartbroken to learn of her passing, but we take comfort knowing that she is with GOD. We will continue to hold your precious family in thought and prayer.
