Gary Preston Gatrell, Sr. passed away March 22, 2021 in his home in Virginia Beach. Gary was born in West Virginia on September 9th, 1948 and was preceded in death by his father Howard Kenneth Gatrell Sr., his mother Margaret Breighthaupe Gatrell and his brother Howard Kenneth Gatrell Jr. He was a graduate of Waynesburg High School. He spent over 40 years working as a master mechanic during his life. He was a man who loved God and cherished the time he had with his family.
Gary was married to his high school sweetheart Sandra Lewis Gatrell for nearly 54 years. During their marriage Gary and Sandra had four children, James, Gary, Angelia and Nicole. Gary was also blessed with 11 grandchildren. Kurtis, Kevin, Keith, James, and Jacob Gatrell who live in Pennsylvania. Rhys Kimmel, Kylie, Kaleb, Kaden and Katie Gatrell live in Virginia. Also, two great grandchildren from eldest grandson Kurtis. He has two sisters Gerry and Luann. Gerry resides in Pennsylvania, and Luann in Virginia with their spouse and children.
A small memorial service is being held for family on Sunday, March 28th at 1:00 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

Uncle Gary will truly be missed. Every time I saw him, he had a smile and oh what a hardy laugh! Spend my love to Aunt Sandy, Angie,Jimmy, lil Gary, Nicki, and the rest of the family!

Our hearts are broken at the passing of my brother-in-law. Bob & i loved you so much Gary & we will miss the laughter of the many stories of the good times we all had togeather. Our health wont permit driving to Virginia for your service,we pray for my sister Sandy that GOD will help her thru this terrible time ……..our sympathy &condolences to all the family.We LOVE you.
