Gary T. Schools

April 25, 1961 - July 15, 2021

Gary T. Schools, 60, a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 15, 2021 in Chesapeake, Virginia. Gary was born on April 25th, 1961 in Richmond, Virginia to James and Katherine Schools.

He graduated from Old Dominion University Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration. Gary went on to become a successful sales representative who was dedicated to ensuring safety and security for both families and companies, throughout the area with Johns Brothers Security for the past 20 years.

While attending ODU, he met the love of his life, Mary.  They married a year after graduation on May 19, 1984 and have shared 37 beautiful years together.  They were blessed with 2 children, Amy and Jordan. One of Gary’s proudest accomplishments was being a father to the two of them.

His greatest passion was hunting with his father, James and his son, Jordan.  He shared comradery, brotherhood, and a mutual love for the outdoors with Jordan and his buddies at the “Landowners Hunt Club.”   He also enjoyed golfing with his son, as well as his many friends.   He loved spending time with his daughter, Amy and lovingly referred to her as his “Princess”.  He enjoyed gardening, grilling, and sharing his family’s love for their animals, those passed, Tyson and Baby and now, Turbo and Stella.

He is predeceased by his father, James Schools, and survived by his wife, Mary Schools, daughter, Amy Schools, son, Jordan Schools and fiancée, Lexi Jones; his beloved sister, Tracey Burch(Chris) and mother, Katherine (Patsy) Schools.  He’s also survived by his sisters in law, Judy Williams (Ron) and Susan Doyle (Mark) and many close cousins and friends.  Gary’s charismatic personality had a way of making you feel like you were not just a friend; you were family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd.  in Chesapeake, Virginia.  A Celebration of Life will start at the funeral home immediately after the visitation.  The family ask that all unvaccinated guests please adhere to CDC Guidelines and wear a mask.  Condolences may be left for Gary’s family below.
