Faye, my heart goes out to you. I pray that you have a supernatural peace as you go through the next days, weeks and months. Faye and Gene have been very special to my family. I did not realize that Bob and Mary Beth actually were your neighbors while they lived in my parents home on Sweeney Road. You were such great neighbors to them and to my parents. After my Dad went to Heaven Gene and Faye were exceptional friends to my Mom—keeping her safe and well cared for over the years. I always looked forward to seeing Gene and Faye whenever I made the trip to see Virginia Beach. Heaven has gained a very special angel in Gene.

We had the privilege of moving into the home across the street from Mr. Gene and Mrs. Faye almost four years ago. What a joy it has been to get to know this wonderful couple. Mr. Gene delighted in watching our three boys play outside and they too were very fond of Mr. Gene. They would always yell from across the street when he was coming or going, “Hi Mr. Gene!!” He and Mrs. Faye would always have a special treat (including popcorn!) for the boys on Halloween. They were always the first house we visited! He touches the lives of so many with grace and love. We will miss him dearly.

Oh my goodness….I would not even know where to begin to describe Gene Gimbert….Let’s see…We first met while renting the house across the street from them (that my in-laws owned) in the late 70’s, early 80’s…..it was always great being around this fun loving, down to earth couple that we fondly knew as Gene and Faye……that Gene….he was always quick to smile, quick to give a good chuckle, quick to lend a hand, quick to tell a funny joke…..and he loved to talk….Back then, I know we spent hours and hours just chatting it up in the driveway on Sweeney Road….My husband’s parents moved back to Virginia Beach and we moved to Kempsville but never lost contact with the Gimberts….every Halloween we HAD to drive our boys over to see Mr. Gene and Miss Faye, as they always had a special treat just for them….My children remember that to this day….and Christmas…oh yes….Gene was the first one on the block to put out Christmas lights…all around the front of his house and on the porch…He loved Christmas…AND not to be outdone….the 4th of July festivities were a must at his home and have been for years and years…his sister Mary, who he fondly referred to as “sister” and her family would always come down from Northern Virginia to celebrate America’s Birthday….you never knew how many were coming, but it didn’t matter…there was ALWAYS room for everyone at the Gimbert’s home….they loved being together….everyone would sit out back and enjoy the great company and wonderful food…some even came this past July 4th…..He just loved his family….He loved his church….He loved singing and performing for those less fortunate than he….He just loved life…..and the LOVE and DEVOTION he had for his wife was unparalleled!!! Faye was his life..…they did everything together…and he doted on her all the time…. Gene was a true Virginia gentleman…..Heaven welcomed him home and if anyone deserves to be right in God’s loving arms…it would be Gene Gimbert…We’ll miss you dear friend….rest in peace! xo

fay and all the gimbert family we are so sorry for your loss. we are sorry for our loss of him. gene was one of the kindest gentlemen I knew. I enjoyed so much our time together while singing with the MESSANGERS. that was a wonderful time for many years. everywhere we would go gene had so many fans. they loved all of his songs but ALWAYS REQUESTED, ” EXCUSES”. he loved doing that for them. after he left the group it seems that we got even closer. he would come to many sings that I would go to so we kept in touch. then when his health started to cause him concern I felt a deeper connection to him. even after his surgery he would walk the hospital halls and talk to people and sometimes sing to them. his witness was so strong and true. maybe he and grady and Milton have already got together to sing. I will miss you my dear friend. love you all ray
