Gene A. Allen transitioned from this life on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. He was born May 7, 1959, in Nansemond County, in Suffolk, VA, to the late James Author Allen and Bessie Mae Allen. He attended Smithfield Highschool and married Laverne Allen, August 30, 1985. Gene retired from Huntington Ingalls after 40 years of employment.
Gene loved playing pool, tennis and chess he had a very competitive spirit. He loved watching football and was a dedicated Dallas Cowboy fan. He enjoyed attending games at the AT&T Stadium- home of the Cowboys. Gene told the truth whenever his opinion was asked, and sometimes when it was not. His voice carried and could seem intimidating but, his disposition was that of a gentle giant. When someone asked for something, the initial answer was always “NO” and 15 minutes later you received a phone call saying, “Come up here and get this money”.
He was a Rigger by trade for Newport News Shipbuilding for 40 years. During Gene’s employment with Huntington Ingalls, he was dedicated, dependable, trusted and loved by many. Gene enjoyed life, spending time with his family, friends, and a good drink. Most importantly, he enjoyed time with his wife. They dated their entire marriage and he absolutely adored her as she did him.
Gene attended meetings at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He now awaits Jehovah’s promise of paradise stated in Revelations 21:3&4. While he was not perfect, he lived his life as a model citizen. He will be missed by anyone who had the opportunity to grace his presence. He became a Pops, Uncle, or Brother because he did not believe in friends he believed in family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur Allen, Sr. and Bessie Mae Allen; along with two brothers, Thomas Lee Allen, Larry Allen, and James A. Allen, Jr.
Gene leaves to cherish in memory his wife, Laverne Allen; two daughters, Leslie Brown (Rondell) and Tesila Wilkerson (Earnest); two grandchildren, Sean and Morgan; 11 siblings: Beatrice Fulgham (Fletcher), Virginia Harden, Carrol Allen, Abigail Allen-Boone, Joseph Allen, David Allen (April), Thurman Allen (Dorothy), Lester Allen, Redell Allen, and Kenneth Allen (Lisa).
