Georgia Louise Shirley

Passed Away: January 5, 2022

VIRGINIA BEACH – Georgia Shirley, 94, was born in Norfolk County to the late Dixie and Jennie Sawyer Neal. Georgia was a homemaker, who loved spending time with and caring for her family. She was also a member of the Berkley Lodge #52 Order of the Eastern Star for 50 plus years. In her younger days, she enjoyed square dancing, traveling to Florida during the colder months, and just being outdoors in the sun. Georgia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norwood “Mike” Shirley, four brothers and one sister.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Peggy S. Foster and her husband Rodney of Chesapeake and Debra Leahey of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. In addition, we would like to especially thank the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living at Cedar Manor for their exceptional care while she was with them.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home Chesapeake. A graveside service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Blackwater Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Lynn Hardaway officiating. Express condolences to the family at

What our families say...

My family and I are grateful to Angie and the entire Altmeyer team for providing a thoughtful viewing and funeral service for my Auntie. They were kind and respectful through the entire process, listening attentively and carrying out our requests with compassion. Thank you for your help, but most importantly, thank you for your sincerity!
